“The Routes of Julius Kugy”

Palazzo Veneziano – Malborghetto Ethnographic Museum
March 27–June 28, 2026.
Organized by the Tarvisio CAI Section.

The exhibition project “The Routes of Julius Kugy” on display at Palazzo Veneziano – Malborghetto Ethnographic Museum, has been organized to mark the 80th anniversary of the Tarvisio CAI Section. The exhibition tells the story of Julius Kugy, a mountaineer and writer deeply connected to the Julian Alps, through a journey that highlights his relationship with the mountains, the region, and Alpine culture.
The exhibition traces the stages of his personal and intellectual journey, highlighting the passions that shaped his perspective on the mountains—from music to botany to writing—and his connection to significant places such as Valbruna, the starting point for many climbs and a meeting place for prominent mountain guides.
The project stems from the donation of exhibition panels by the Fondazione Palazzo Coronini Cronberg in Gorizia, and a series of in-depth accompanying events is planned during the exhibition period. The initiative is realized with the support of the Regional Council of Friuli Venezia Giulia and under the patronage of the Municipality of Malborghetto-Valbruna, the Municipality of Tarvisio, the Fondazione Palazzo Coronini Cronberg, the Canal del Ferro and Val Canale Mountain Community, and the Italian Alpine Club – Friuli Venezia Giulia.

The exhibition is open Tuesday through Sunday, 10:30 AM–12:30 PM and 3:00 PM–6:00 PM, with special closures on Easter and May 1.
